Facilities and equipment
This section of the Novartis RLT Institute reviews the considerations in setting up the facilities and equipment required to provide radioligand therapy (RLT).
Design options
Design options for location of the bathroom
The proximity of the bathroom to the treatment room is an important consideration in an RLT facility to ensure safe management of radioactive patients and waste. Strategically placing the bathroom nearby enhances patient care by reducing travel distance, avoiding busy waiting areas, and minimizing exposure risks and potential contamination risks to the public, other patients, and staff.1-3
Designing the layout of the bathroom facility with contamination and exposure in mind minimizes contamination risks, enhances patient comfort, and aligns with radiation safety guidelines for waste containment.1-4
Integrated bathroom
- When available, a bathroom integrated into the treatment room minimizes exposure and contamination risks1,2
Close proximity to treatment room
- If an integrated bathroom is not available, selecting a bathroom with close proximity reduces the need for RLT patients to move through public or unshielded areas1,2,4
