Radioactive materials (RAM) capabilities checklist

RAM license

Ensure the RAM license includes:

• Appropriate radionuclide (ie, ¹⁷⁷Lu)
• Appropriate chemical form (if necessary by state)
• Adequate possession limit
• Authorized uses
• Authorized user(s) for the parenteral administration of RAM
• Acceptable address to receive and use RAM

Hot lab

Ensure the hot lab:

• Is appropriately secured
• Displays appropriate signage
• Has a dose calibrator and appropriate accessories
• Has an appropriate dose preparation area
• Has appropriate shielding: L-block, lead bricks, syringe shield(s)
• Has other lab equipment: survey meter, tongs, etc

Radioactive waste and disposal management

Ensure:

Treatment room

Ensure the designated infusion room has:

• Necessary equipment available
• Necessary supplies for infusion
• Appropriate shielding for infusion, as necessary
• Measures implemented to prevent contamination and process for release for non-RLT use, as needed

Bathroom

Ensure the bathroom:

• Is dedicated or not accessible to the general public during patient RLT therapy
• Has appropriate signage
• Has measures implemented to prevent contamination

Training and education

Ensure the appropriate staff is trained and educated regarding:

• Dosing and administration
• Dose calibrator dial setting verification
• Product radiation safety

Standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Ensure documentation exists for relevant SOPs, such as:

• RLT infusion SOP
• Extravasation SOP

Documents

Ensure templates exist for:

• Treatment consent
• Written directive
• Patient discharge instructions
